Who is Queerest of the Queer
Queerest of the Queer is a collaboration between the Meth Lab (Meth and Joe) and the Queer Embassy (Maria and Dr J) – we’re mad enough to try and create fun, interesting, collaborative, open, engaging queer events – which sometimes make money, which we pour back into making more crazy events.
We work collaboratively with other producers such as LGBT Undergrnd, Wotever World and BoiBox.
Profits from events are shared with performers and backstage people- so everyone working with us gets something for their efforts.
We ensure that everyone who works for us is paid, at least minimum wage for their work. Because relying on people being able to afford to volunteer their time and labour for free makes it impossible for many queers to work with you – because we all need to make enough for rent and food, and those extra hours matter.
We also donate at least 10% of the profits from the large events to Charity, because we believe that a more equitable society is possible.
In 2015 thanks to BrewDog and No Label we were able to donate to:
The Albert Kennedy Trust, a wonderful charity that supports young LGBT 16-25 year olds who are made homeless or living in a hostile environment, because LGBTQ kids need a fabulous future & a fierce now! http://www.akt.org.uk/ – Check out LipSync for their Lives – charity is not just for one day.
MicroRainbow International, a lovely not for profit that is addressing the situation of LGBTQI people worldwide. In the UK 1,300 LGBT people are granted asylum annually with the majority quickly falling below the poverty line. Because freedom to be yourself shouldn’t mean living below the poverty line. http://www.micro-rainbow.org/
Mosaic LGBT Youth Centre, a charity working to support LGBT+ youth 12-19 years old who are coming out, exploring their sexuality and gender identities, giving them a space to ask advice and meet others like them. Because we believe that all LGBTQ+ youth need a fabulous future & a fierce now! http://mosaicyouth.org.uk/ – check out Pride Prom – everyone shall go to the ball!
